About

Our Romance Writers of America chapter is home to professional authors crafting LGBTQIA2S+ romance across all heat levels – from sweet to sensual to erotic. We proudly embrace writers and stories representing the full spectrum of queer identities and experiences, including authors of color, neurodiverse writers, and those with disabilities. Our commitment to intersectionality ensures all voices are heard and celebrated.

Our goals are:

  • Promote excellence in LGBTQIA2S+ romance writing
  • Support our members’ artistic and professional growth
  • Advocate for our expanding market at industry events
  • Serve as a dynamic resource for members, media, and publishers

United by our love of literature, we actively pursue research, awareness, and education as a chapter of the Romance Writers of America.

We are changing minds, one heart at a time.

History

In 2009, Laura Baumbach initiated the formation of an LGBTQIA2S+ special interest chapter within the Romance Writers of America (RWA). The vision was to connect professional queer romance authors with RWA’s extensive resources and industry network, which has supported over 10,000 members since 1981.

Rainbow Romance Writers (RRW) was established to provide LGBTQIA2S+ romance authors with professional development, networking, and advocacy within an inclusive environment. As an active RWA chapter, we continue to:

  • Champion excellence in LGBTQIA2S+ romance
  • Support our members’ professional growth
  • Advocate for our expanding market at industry events
  • Serve as a dynamic resource for authors, media, and publishers

Activities

Rainbow Romance Writers advances LGBTQIA2S+ romance through three key committees:

  • Education: Delivers RRW Academy online classes and workshops to enhance members’ artistic and professional growth
